Nylon Tippet

Buoyancy: Floats naturally on the water surface, which keeps dry flies riding high. Stretch: Has more elasticity, acting like a shock absorber when a fish fights or runs. Handling: Softer, more flexible, and easier to tie tight, secure knots.

Fluorocarbon Tippet

Visibility: Bends light like water does, making it nearly invisible to fish in clear streams. Sink Rate: Denser and heavier, helping nymphs and streamers sink fast to the bottom. Durability: Tougher against sharp rocks, rough structure, and teeth. Water absorption: Does not absorb water, so it keeps the same strength all day.

When To Use Fluorocarbon Tippet: Use Fluorocarbon when you want to nymph (under water flies) or use streamers (baitfish & minnow imitation). Fluorocarbon will sink faster than nylon.

When To Use Nylon Tippet: Use Nylon when you want to throw dry flies (top water flies). Nylon is more buoyant and will help keep your flies on top of the water. Pair with floatant to keep you flies up longer.
